Mountain Trail Course

Program

Walking a horse across spaced logs, opening and closing a gate, crossing a bridge or riding through a tunnel, even riding over a low seesaw; those are some of the difficulties you will learn to calmly deal with during the mountain trail course.
These are challenges we may encounter during a ride in the mountain and are part of this new discipline, born in the United States, organized by Mark Bolender, which is also achieving resounding also in Italy.
The peculiarity of this riding discipline is that you may practice it both on the ground and in the saddle, either with a bit, or with headcollar. This complements the way we train and keep our horses at Cornacchino.

Teaching Method

The first stage of this course is some groundwork in order to improve control over the horse and all its movements and also to increase the horse’s trust and confidence in us. We deal with some obstacles starting with the easy ones and as soon as our horse is ready and calmly deals with them, we move to more demanding ones.
During the second stage, we first ride in the arena, so the teacher can check the rider’s ability, and then return to the trail’s camp, where we tackle the various obstacles but this time on horseback.
We also do some exercise in the woods, so we can see how useful this discipline is for riding in the countryside.

The Course’s Purpose

Deepening and developing a way of communicating with the horse, building a real partnership of trust, so that we can deal with any possible difficulties we may encounter on a trail.
At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of attendance.
This course is suitable for all those that have at least a good basic experience in western riding and are at ease walking, trotting and galloping in the arena.
Non-riders / beginners may take part in the initial groundwork.

The Teacher

Lessons are taken by Elisabetta Olivieri and Fabio Tascone.

Elisbetta is a judge and trainer of Mountain Trail competitions.

Fabio teaches in a simple and intuitive way, with the Natural Riding method developed during his 34 years of teaching both riders and horses.  A connoisseur and scholar of the “sweet taming” method, Fabio has created a code for all horse lovers, based on the rider listening to their own body and the conscious use of it, in order to communicate with the horse.
Farrier, teacher, riding instructor and trainer, Fabio has a large range of experience with different horse breeds, management, and disciplines. The skills developed during his life with horses have always been aimed towards animal welfare. With this wealth of experience, Fabio focusses on a “natural horsemanship” approach, gained from observation of their behavior, which has given him an intuitive understanding of the relationship between man and horse.
