Ranch Work - what does that actually mean? In this week we would like to give you an understanding of the basic works at a horse ranch. At Cornacchino we are keeping, breeding and training horses for more than 20 years. Our land consists of more than 100 hectare and is home to about 50 horses in small droves in broad meadows with natural streams, small forests and scattered rock formations. Our youngest ones were just born last year and our oldest horse counts already 34 years.
These surroundings are a perfect setting to show you the daily chores as well as the special works at a horse ranch.
In this week we will, amongst other things, learn how to supply and saddle our workhorse, we will practice the one-handed riding, open and close gates from the horseback, drive horse herds and we will lern how to manage a "hand horse" also in rough terrain.
At the end of the week we go together on the "Horse Drive" - we drive together one of our herds to their new grassland. With us our "hand horse", whichever are carrying the supplies for our BBQ.
Estimated course of events:
Saturday: Arrival and dinner
Sunday: Informal meeting and theory lesson (et al. Horsemanship, herd behavior)
Monday: One-handed westernriding; Neck reigning; firm control of your horse with only one hand
Tuesday: Trail riding; Opening gates, move your horses sideways over obstacle... etc.
Wednesday: Team penning with horses
Thursday: Riding with other horses beside
Friday: "Horse Drive", day trip with BBQ
Saturday: Breakfast and departure
You will be guided personally by Fabio Tascone. Fabio is one of the owners of Cornacchino and has been breeding, training and working with horses for over more than 30 years. He made a name for himself with the training of colts and the correction of so- called horses with problems. He is specialised in outdoor westernriding.
The program may be modified at any time due to prevailing weather conditions or for technical reasons.
